Siren Allen shares how NOT to fall in love per her character Shun'Uhl.

I have so many things to be thankful for. My hubby and I have just purchased a new house, summer is almost here and I have a new Sci-Fi release. Claimed By The Succubus is available on Amazon.
In Claimed By The Succubus, you meet Izzie: the shy, wild-haired succubus who is trying to reach Earth to save her best friends from… well, she doesn’t know what she’s saving them from, she only knows that they need her help.
To reach them she places her trust in a familiar face, Jacob Bollinger. Only, he seems different now. Why? Because he’s not Jacob at all. He’s really Shun’Uhl, a shape shifting soldier sent to return Izzie to her long-lost father.
Her goal is to meet up with her friends on Earth. His goal is to return her to the king, untouched. Which one will achieve their goal? I can’t tell you. You have to read Claimed By The Succubus and find out for yourself.
Today, my hero from Claimed By The Succubus, Shun’Uhl, is going to give you a few tips on how NOT to fall in love. This should be interesting.

Tips On How Not To Fall In Love - From Shun’Uhl

Love is not for warriors. It’s too distracting. I’ve seen too many good soldiers fall victim to this disease. The afflicted don’t even realized their infected. I’ve made up my mind that I will protect myself from love at all costs. Being around Princess Izeria has almost made me change my thoughts on love. However, I’m strong. And so far, I’ve been able to keep my distance from her, despite the fact that we are the only two beings on my ship. If you’re a warrior that has been tasked with protecting a female you can’t seem to stop thinking about, here are few tips to help you stay sane and avoid falling victim to love.

Do not talk to the person you’re trying to avoid falling in love with.
Do not engage in small talk or deep discussions. Talking leads to you watching her lips move, which leads to you wanting to kiss her. Don’t talk to her. Don’t kiss her.

Do not spend time alone with her.
Spending time alone with her leads to her becoming more comfortable around you. That leads to her wanting to lean on you or be near you. Which leads to you craving her nearness at all times. Do not spend time alone with her.

Do not stare directly into her eyes.
This will be your downfall. When she casts shy glances in your direction, look away. Don’t stare at her. You’ll crave more of those glances if you hold her gaze.

Do not touch her.
This is the most important rule. Do not put your hands or any part of your body on her. This rule is a hard one to follow. You may tell yourself, ‘I will touch her one time then never again’. You lie. One touch will never be enough. It will lead to you craving the feel of her skin under your fingertips forever. Do not touch her.

If you follow these tips, you have a fifty percent chance of coming out of your situation without a mate. As for me, I am trying my hardest to make it through my mission unscathed. I feel my resolve weakening daily. If I fall victim to love, please continue to spread these tips so that not all our brethren become infected. I must go now. Izeria has decided she wants to play cards to pass the time. If I deny her request, she will get into one of her moods and start ignoring me. I do not like it when she ignores me. Be strong brethren. Remain vigilant.

Claimed By The Succubus Blurb
~The Half-Breed~
She is Izeria’Ahzul, the long-lost daughter of my king. She was raised away from our people and knows nothing of her heritage. Our kind are a myth to her. She doesn’t believe we exist and there’s no way she’ll believe she’s one of us.

~The Beast~
I am Shun’Uhl, the soldier ordered to return her to my king’s side so she can marry a royal and produce an heir to save our people. To get her to trust me, I shed my beastly form and take on the form of someone she knows. I choose unwisely. The form I’ve selected is a male she despises.

~The Forbidden~
The more time I spend with her, the more she comes to like me. And though I’ve tried to resist, I find myself falling for her also. Her feelings for me will change once she learns of my deception and sees how I really look. Part of me wants to complete my mission and return her to her father. Another part of me wants to remain in this form forever and spend my life with Izeria.
I have a choice to make: be honest with the female I love and risk losing her or lie to her for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately, the choice is made for me when we come under attack and I have to release my beast to protect her.
Now it is she who has to make a choice: Me and my beast or a kingdom?

Excerpt

My beast is trying to take over.
Even now, as I escort Izeria to the dining hall, he’s pushing against the barrier that separates drahken from dragon. He’s clawing at the barricade that keeps him inside. Moments ago, he came close to breaking free.
Not only did I hear his growl, so did Izeria. She assumed it was my stomach growling in hunger. Luckily, she’s too naïve to think the worst of me. She senses something is wrong, yet, she doesn’t want to believe me capable of deceiving her, of hurting her.
I should feel guilty for what I’m doing. I don’t. I can’t. Too much is riding on me getting her to my territory. My beast snorts his displeasure, unhappy with our current mission. It’s funny how he can kill viciously, yet he frowns upon lying to our half-breed princess.
I can feel him pacing the recesses of my mind. In this form, he cannot speak to me. Right now, that’s a good thing. I don’t want to hear his thoughts on what is happening. He knew what we’d have to do when we found her.
He knew we’d have to lie or maybe even kidnap her to achieve our goal. His feelings for her can’t change that. Nothing can change what has to be done. The lives of our people are more important than Izeria’s opinion of us.
When we arrive in the dining hall, I step to the side so she and her rodent can enter the room before me. I’m glad I did. The look on her face as she walks into the dining hall is priceless. It’s almost like she’s never been on a spacecraft before.
“This is the biggest dining hall I’ve ever been in. Not only on a ship, but on land also.”
She turns to me and smiles. For a moment, I forget how to breathe. I sense my beast’s pleasure, or is that my own? The line between what I want and what he wants is starting to blur.

Cara Bristol shares how to find humor in Sci-Fi Romance

Finding the humor in sci-fi Romance:
 Alien Mate by Cara Bristol

Ask women what traits are important to them in a mate, and sense of humor almost always rates in the top three. It feels good to laugh, and people like others who can make them laugh and who can see the funny side of life, who don’t take themselves too serious.
But other than in romantic comedy, you don’t find much humor in romance. Romance novels tend to be rather serious affairs, focusing on the conflict in the story or the obstacles keeping a couple apart.
However, in real life, there is often a lot of humor when a couple is dating and getting to know each. So why wouldn’t you put it a romance novel? It makes the read that much more entertaining. There is some humor in nearly every book I write, but Alien Mate is a genuinely humorous read from start to finish. It’s a futuristic mail order bride story! That in itself is amusing, but I think readers will really appreciate the heroine’s sense of humor.

Alien Mate blurb:

I'm Starr Elizabeth Conner. Earth's government falsely convicted me of a crime, packed me on a ship with other female felons, and sent us to Dakon, a primitive, frozen wasteland of a planet. Why? Earth needs minerals, and Dakon is desperate for females.
But I'm no barbarian’s 'mail order bride,' even if he is super tall, muscular, and the chief of his tribe. He doesn’t want a BBW blonde, either--it's written all over his chiseled face. He'll be truly angry if he ever learns what my 'crime' was.
I am Torg. I have waited 34 rotations for a mate of my own. With this shipment, I was sure to get a fine, sturdy mate who'll bear me many daughters. Instead, I receive a small, curvy, pale-haired female who looks at me with anger and fear.
It is only when we 'kiss' that I believe things may work out between us. But I'm hearing rumors that Starr and her shipmates are law-breakers. To survive, Dakonians must obey all laws … or be exiled into the frozen wasteland.  Just when I have found her, will I have to send my mate to die?

Alien Mate excerpt
Maybe becoming an alien’s companion wasn’t such a terrible fate. We could be friends with very limited benefits. Billions of miles between me and the Carmichaels couldn’t hurt, and it beat spending my life in prison. If the Carmichaels could have me wrongfully convicted, they could block my appeal.
But how would I keep track of the status? Since the planet wasn’t connected to the ’net, how would Maridelle update me?
“Well, we’re all here now. It’s kind of like being a ’net-order bride,” the brunette said cheerfully. “By the way, I’m Tessa Chartreuse. I ran an escort service for an elite clientele.”
“So why are you here? Prostitution isn’t illegal.” It had been decriminalized a long time ago.
“No, but money laundering is.” She shrugged.
Andrea laughed. “She’s an entrepreneur.”
I took a deep breath. “Any idea what the aliens look like?” I’d kept to myself, but I’d heard rumors our intended “mates” were scaly blue with long tails. Only recently had Terra One World made contact with Dakon. I’d been told the aliens “looked like us,” but I had little confidence in my government to tell the truth.
“I did a little ’net research before they transported me to the shuttle,” Andrea explained. “They are humanoid, genetically compatible with us, but they’re taller, much more muscular, and bigger.” She held her hands about a meter apart.
“Are you talking about their penises or their bodies in general?” Tessa asked.
Shit, I hoped Andrea was referring to their bodies. I eyed the span between her palms.
Andrea rolled her eyes. “Their bodies in general. I did not research their junk.”
“It would be proportionate, though, wouldn’t you think?” Tessa persisted. You could take the girl out of the escort business, but you couldn’t take the escort business out of the girl.
Andrea placed her index fingers to her forehead so they stuck up. “And they have—”
“Antennas?” My jaw dropped.
“More like horns.”

Possible occupants of the 'not a moont' spaceship PAN

Liza contemplates the occupants of PAN, the 'not a moon' space ship.

Clearly, Pan was/is mining minerals, but it is a bit battered. The flat fins on side of the huge ship have been curved down, while the other side has thin fins.

1st Issues:
Is the ship still functional?
Are there sentient beings alive inside?
If so, are they still mining or are they waiting for rescue?
Or are the all dead and the ship remains in the 168 mile-wide opening in Saturn's rings?

The ship is over 16 miles long-that's a huge ship! Thus, in my opinion,  it's more likely, the sentient beings are alive and they are still mining the ring. While they might require  repairs to occur before they return to their planet, presently, they seem to be able to safely maneuver as they mine the ring.

2) What are they mining?
 According to NASA

Saturn's rings are made primarily of water ice. Since pure water ice is white, it is believed that different colors in the rings reflect different amounts of contamination by other materials such as rock or carbon compounds.

Yeah, not much help. But clearly, the ship is in the darker, more contaminated section A.

Given zero guidance as to what minerals, rocks, or compounds that might be out there, I'm going to have to just make it up.

So I'm going to have them mine meteorites for diamonds, magnetic iron, hematites, and crystals which are highly prized on their planet and other planets.

3) Issue 3: How often do they go home?

Every rotation of the sun is the equivalent of 29.4 earth years.

They jump to their planet whenever the ship is full. That's usually about one earth month, give or take a year, depending on what they are mining at the time.

We've noticed what appears to be their absences, but we just assumed our telescopes failed to locate it. Being so far from earth, it has been easy to lose.
In fact, we believed Pan was a planet before the Casini pics were taken, giving us our first up close and shocking pics.  Still, you never heard the word spaceship from NASA.

4) What do the sentients inside look like.

Here are some options:
The most rational expectation is a sentient without any bones, that can live in a liquid, (In this case methane).

But that means no romance with the critters on the alien ship.
So here are some other options.
This is a methane based guy who has eyes that focus individually, which will take some getting use to. His nose is broad as well, for better sniffing.

Now this captain is a humanoid. It's what we'll look like a hundred years from now if we lived on a ship in space.
She'll be a helpful captain...unless she learns we killed our captain...that might make her a big worried.  (We did kill our captain, that's already written.)
He wanted to be God. I had to kill him.

Here's an evil looking methane based alien from methane lake or perhaps from the ship. While he looks evil, he  could be nice too. Looks can be deceiving.

Here's two metalic  aliens. One with eyes, one without. (I like the one with eyes.) They might consume iron, which is why they are mining Saturn's rings. They are definitely from the ship. And they are hard bodies.

Then there is Methane man, who could live in the lake and isn't happy we are converting methane into water and CO2.
He is soft, so don't hit him.

and final there is rock man!

Rock Man doesn't have to be methane based. He could be a miner from the ship. Or that could be his suit, and he could be a little guy inside...rather like the frail female captain.

So, which do you like best.
Give me some of your ideas. My brain is going in too many directions!

Veronica Scott shares a new scene from Danger in the Stars & Liza Reviews

Liza is delighted to have Veronica Scott over again!

Thanks for having me as your guest yet again, with a new excerpt from my latest release, Danger in the Stars!

I’m not normally drawn to stories involving organized crime but I had this fascination about what would happen to an alien woman from an unsophisticated planet, kidnapped because of her rare empathic powers, and forced to work for the Amarotu Combine, my interstellar mob. There seemed to be so many possibilities inherent in the situation – how would she survive, what would they force her to do with her powers, how could she retain her identity and her sense of worth, who would be a hero for her? What would happen if she felt herself falling into genuine love with someone in the organization? Not Stockholm Syndrome, may I hasten to add, which is where a victim may start to feel affection or emotion toward the captors as a psychological survival strategy. I tried to ensure that both Miriell and Conor, the hero, were crystal clear what the situation was and that their emotions were genuine, not an outgrowth of her predicament. Miriell is a very strong, senior priestess of her people, and remains clear eyed at all times about those who hold her prisoner, including Conor. But her powers tell her he’s keeping secrets. None of which deter him from preventing her escape attempt early in the book.

Here’s the story for Danger in the Stars:
Miriell, a powerful empathic priestess, has been kidnapped from her own primitive planet along with a number of her people, and sold to the evil Amarotu Combine, largest organized crime syndicate in the Sectors. When she and her handler are sent to use her power to commit an assassination, she must leave behind her own sister as hostage to ensure her compliance. Miriell cannot ask for aid without endangering herself and others.

Despite his best efforts, Combine enforcer Conor Stewart is entranced by Miriell, and helps her evade the worst of brutal treatment from the rest of the mob. But Conor must keep his distance, before the lovely empath learns that he has secrets of his own–secrets that could get them both killed.

The situation becomes dire when Conor and Miriell come to the attention of both the Combine overlords and the deadly Mawreg, aliens who threaten the Sectors. Can she save herself and the Mawreg’s next victims? And will Conor help her, or remain loyal to his evil bosses?

VS Note: This is the story of the sister who is mentioned in passing in Star Cruise: Stowaway, my story in the award winning PETS IN SPACE anthology. The new novel is completely standalone.

Excerpt – Soon after arriving on a new planet with her criminal handler, Jareck, Miriell seizes a rare chance to escape but is caught by Conor, the local Mob enforcer. He works for the planet’s crime boss, Opherra:

When she reached the lower floors of the hotel, other people were in the tube, apparently prevented somehow from ascending to the penthouse but able to use the gravlift unhindered below a certain level. For the most part, the other guests ignored her, although excitement and terror made her clumsy, and she bumped into several. She exited at the lobby along with a group of excitedly chattering tourists, human and nonhuman sentients, all babbling about the temple ruins on their itinerary for the day’s trip. Scurrying in their wake through the crowded entrance hall, she hoped a casual observer would think her part of the group.

The outer doors opened at her approach, and a burst of adrenaline propelled her onto the sidewalk in a rush, jostling a couple who’d paused to check their AI’s. Murmuring an apology, she stepped away. Which way? What now? Frantic, she set off to the left toward what appeared to be a main street with heavy groundcar traffic.  The necklace bobbed around her neck as she ran. No one had ever told her what the range of the controller was but the more distance she put between herself and Jareck, the more hopeful she felt. And the police the Amarotu were always talking about with loathing would be able to remove it, wouldn’t they?

Reaching the thoroughfare, Miriell stopped in confusion. There were so many people and so many vehicles. How did one find these police?

“Excuse me—” She tried to stop one of the hurrying citizens, but he shrugged her off and shouldered past, as did the next person.

Changing tactics, Miriell approached a woman waiting with two small children to cross the street. “How do I find the police?”

“Now, darling, no need for involving the cops. The authorities have better things to do.” The deep voice swirled around her as Conor hauled her in, not ungently, and held her close in a parody of affectionate care.  His arms were like steel around her, his muscles unyielding. “I told you, the hotel will be able to take care of the problem.”

Pushing against him in frustration, Miriell swore at Conor in her own language. To be so close to escaping…

Mouth open, the woman was staring at them. As her children tugged at her hands, she said directly to Miriell, “Are you all right?”

“My wife’s fine,” Conor answered smoothly. “Aren’t you, honey? We just arrived today. She gets disoriented a bit by cryo sleep.  Waking dreams for the first day or so. You know how it is, I’m sure. I’ll get her back to the hotel, get some nice hot tea into her, and she’ll be herself again, good as ever. Thanks for your concern.”

Conor’s grip was now crushing her elbow. Miriell nodded, fighting back tears. “I’m sorry to have bothered you. I hope I didn’t frighten the children.”

Uncertain, hesitant, the woman scooped up her smaller child, tightened her grip on the other and sprinted across the street as the traffic paused in obedience to signals Miriell didn’t see.

“Not your smartest move,” Conor said in a low voice as he pulled Miriell away, retreating toward the hotel. “We have to get you back to the room before Opherra learns you escaped. Her punishments tend to be swift and harsh. Fortunately, she’s addicted to long baths, so we have a window of opportunity.”

“Please—” She knew there was no mercy to be had from an Amarotu soldier, but it was heartbreaking to come so close to escaping the nightmare her life had become. She sagged in his hold as her knees weakened. “I’m nothing to you. Let me go, I beg you.”

He shook his head, gripping her arm more tightly as he pulled her along. “You’re part of my boss’s operation. It’s my job to secure her assets and watch her back….”

There’s an excellent reason why Veronica Scott is a Best Seller and a Multiple times Award Winner. She is reliably a great buy.

I just finished her latest book. Danger in the Stars, is absolutely fabulous!

It begins with a powerful telepathic slave from a human'ish' species being brought to this planet to use her talents on a reluctant potential business partner. The first chance Miriell has to escape, she goes for it. Unfortunately, Conor is #2 in Lady Opherra growing crime syndicate and he has to bring the young woman back. Unlike her handler, Conor is firm but gentle and kind, but he cannot allow her to run off. She is here because the big boss thinks she can help Lady Opherra achieve her objective. The Lady Opherra does not believe she needs any assistance and grows to hate Mirielle.

Miriell hates the planet because it has few trees, but lots of buildings. She relies on the essence of nature to heal and strengthen her, so she is weakened by this planet. Fortunately, Conor takes her to various gardens while on the planet. The last one being the most critical. (You’ll have to read the book to find out why.)

While Miriell does not trust easily and despite that Canon is Lady Opherra’s right hand guy, Miriell grows to trust him, and they develop a love that nothing can break, even though they must keep it a secret for most of the book.

The first half is mostly establishing the characters, their loves and hates, plus Lady Opherra’s constant deceit and viciousness. The second half is full-on action and betrayals, then we are rewarded with a fabulous HEA.  I couldn’t ask for more!

Titan gets even stranger

These are earth dunes

Recently, we've determined there are 100 foot dunes running about the equator of Titan.  Only these aren't normal earth dunes like above.
Titan dunes

These dunes are rather like sticky plastic.
And they may well have the ability to send out electrical charges...bolts of lightning.

They are strong enough that the powerful winds of Titan don't move them much. Instead, their force of nature appears to be molded by electrostatic forces.

Actually, when grains of dust from a volcano on earth occurs, it can also get sticky and weird, hurtling electrical bolts of lightning around. The key difference here is that these appear to be more like plastic molds of our sand dunes and they seem to blatantly ignore the wind based on their shapes. (They are backwards in their shape)

And powerful electrical bolts could shoot out any time.

Also if a ship lands, it could immediately be covered in the plastic goo, preventing it from ever leaving. Not even a call out "Help, we are covered in thick plastic, we cannot leave the ship nor leave the planet."

Sounds like my story about Titan is DOA, right?
Well, good news. The dunes are an equatorial issue.
My peeps will be landing on the North Pole of Titan. Why the north, instead of the South. The south should be warmer and gets more light.

Does it really matter?  Once the temp goes below -200 degrees, twenty degrees up or down really doesn't matter to a human. Neither is survivable without a kickass suit.

So I sent them to the pole with the most liquid fuel (methane) which can be converted into WATER and Carbon Dioxide.  (The water part is really important, but even the Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere might help 'warm' up the planet and the plants will like it.)

But water is our main focus, for two reasons. 1) We need it to survive. 2) Through electrolysis, we can extract oxygen to breathe, which we also tend to need to survive.

Another positive: Methane can be used as a fuel. It is after all the main ingredient in what we call natural gas here on earth. Since we might want to build shelters and warm them, that would be good. Also, the ship will need fuel to keep us warm before the shelters are built. And then the shelters will require heat as well.

Titan is too far away from the sun to ever have balmy weather, but overtime, we might be able to create warm shelters.

The main reason we should choose the north pole: We are certain one of the lakes on the North pole is methane. South Pole, we haven't verified what is in that smaller lake, so we will land on the North pole.

Still, there is a worrisome oddity: The lake doesn't have waves.  Given the low gravity, the lake should have huge waves, but it appears to be pancake flat.

Perhaps the cold keeps it in a semi-frigid form.

Or perhaps, it is the winds of Titan that we don't understand. Based on the Huyen's descent, they appear to go all over the place, first one direction then the opposite direction. I'll just have to let my peeps work it out.

Back to the Gases of Titan
While Methane is the prominent gas on Titan, there is also Ethane.

On earth, ethane is used in the production of ethylene for making plastics,
anti-freeze
and detergents;
it's also a ripening agent for foods,
a refrigerant,
a substance in producing welding gas
and a primary ingredient in mustard gas.

Except for the last item: mustard gas, that's an impressive list of useful things to get from ethane.

We are planning to have a team of brilliant hardworking people at Titan, so we won't build any mustard gas.

How do you turn Ethane into Ethanal?
Ethane is a component in the natural gas methane and is removed by cryogenic liquefaction which should be real easy on Titan give the chilly -200 temp.

Good thing we have some brilliant chemists in the crew, because we are going to need them.

But here are some key things we'll have based on the gases on Titan:

Water
Oxygen
Heat
Dish detergent
ripening agent for food, since there's no sun to help ripen our fruits and vegetables,
refrigeration to store our food,
the ability to store things like water in plastic bottles
and if the ship needs repair, we can weld booboos.

As for those dunes and their bolts of lightning, we may or may not wish to try and harness that power. Haven't decided. But it's very dangerous, so right now the equator is off limits.

If we can harness the electrostatic forces, then those dunes might make lovely homes for future generations. We'll have to see how it goes.

And there's one last item that may help or harm my people. It appears to me, that the "Moon" Pan is not any sort of moon, it is a space ship. A really huge space ship, and I can't ignore that. So I've got to decide what is in the spaceship, do they need help or are they just mining minerals. Are they humanoid, or octopuses.  But what Pan is not, is a moon. That, I am quite certain about.  And for those who are not sure where Pan is, it is a 'not a moon' that has created a gap in Saturns outer rings.  The gap is about 200 miles long and Pan, 'not a moon' is about 22 miles wide.
It is credited for making the 200 mile gap in the rings.

Makes sense if it's a giant ship mining stuff, doesn't make sense if it's just an odd rock banging about in the space. And don't even get me started on the identical matching indentations on the ship's topside or the very thin fin, or the smooth surface of the fins, or the pentagon shape of the fins.

Well, enough thoughts on Titan for the night.
