Chris Myers shares the Aledan Series

Today, I have Chris Myers over, sharing her fabulous series

Take it away Chris!

Aledan Series
I started The Aledan Series quite a few years ago before scifi romance fully emerged as a sub-genre. A longtime science fiction fan, I always wanted more romance in the stories, so I started writing my own.
The Aledan series is part paranormal romance, part space opera and part family saga that follows the lives of Hankura and Chelle from their first telepathic encounter as children. Not until Hankura is grown up does he begin to accept that she is his psi-mate and that he will never feel whole until he goes back to Earth to find her.

The Aledan: A Psionic Love Story : Born on a world called Aledus where Psions are shunned and treated as second class citizens both socially and legally, Hankura is reluctant to take Chelle there. He feels he has no choice because he promised his parents he would return. Chelle is his psi-mate whose mind has been linked to his for twenty years since they were children.

As I wrote the story I tried to show how their mind link can both enhance their relationship and make life more difficult. I also wanted to show how racial prejudice can divide people and cause unfair treatment because of their special abilities. How Hankura and Chelle deal with the prejudice against them in Aledan society and within Hankura’s family is the heart of the story.

Hankura and Chelle’s story continues through the Aledan Series as they meet new challenges and hardships.  The sequels follow couple through a five year stint with the Explorations for a five year stint. To keep things interesting a new romance unfolds in each along with Hankura's and Chelle's evolving relationship.

Surviving Zevus Mar begins at the end of their service with the Explorations. It is the darkest of the series as their ship is captured by Tregans. The takeover is violent and bloody. Hankura must surrender or watch them kill Chelle and their ordeal is only beginning. The women become sex slaves and the men are just slaves. The story doesn't elaborate on the rapes and violence but on how they survive and pick up the pieces of their lives and reconcile with what they had to do to survive. Is love enough for them to find the courage to go on with their lives?

The Tregans aren't finished with Hankura and Chelle in Psi Factor. They suspect the pair holds the key to developing super soldiers with psionic abilities in addition to their impenetrable psionic mind shields. This puts the couple and their two children in danger when they are en route to Velran for their children to learn to discipline their powerfl psionic abilities.

I hope to release The Aledan's Children for Kindle and in paperback in June 2017.

The Aledan Series Box Set  Second Edition is available for Kindle and runs 787 pages.  The books are also available individually for Kindle and in paperback at Amazon and free to read on Kindle Unlimited.

Carysa Locke shares Pirate Bound

Today, I have Best Seller Carysa Locke's fabulous prequel to A Telepathic Space Pirates.

Blurb:

A desperate gamble…

Sanah would do anything to protect her little sister, even if it means taking refuge with ruthless pirates. But the psychically Talented pirates terrorizing Commonwealth space are not quite the monsters she has been led to believe. When Sanah's empathic gift shows her the truth behind the stories, she is no longer certain who the villains are in her world.

A race on the verge of extinction…

Dem’s only goal is to protect his people, especially since a deadly bio-weapon decimated their population. Only a handful of women survived, and every day is a fight to rebuild. With Sanah’s empathy and her sister’s rare ability to heal, they could be the salvation Dem and his people have been looking for.

A dangerous secret that could destroy everything…

But how can Sanah trust Dem with her life? Especially when he’d kill her if he knew the truth.

Excerpt:

Sanah turned to Dem as soon as they were alone. Before she could say anything, his hand was at her face, touching her cheek. The words died before she could form them. His hand slid from her face, down her arm, and she shivered.

“Are you all right?” he asked.

Sanah didn’t know how to respond; she didn’t even know if she could speak. Dem’s hand on her arm was distracting in ways she hadn’t anticipated.

Physical touch naturally enhanced her gift, especially after what she’d just done.

He was always so carefully controlled; she’d had no idea what lay beneath the surface, not until this moment. The surge of fierce protectiveness might have been something he’d feel regarding any woman on this ship, given the circumstances and his duties. But she didn’t think so. There were layers to the feeling. If she closed her eyes, they moved through her like heated milk with honey, warming her and making her feel…safe and comforted.

An odd response, given the individual emotions in question; it was hard to delineate and assimilate them while his hand was still on her, but she tried.

First, there was that protective top layer, edged with tightly controlled violence. The echoes of it still filled the area, coating the floor, walls, and support beams with fear, rage, and…an implacable coldness.

Beneath that was an intense longing. Lust. Need. Want. A powerful trinity that made it perfectly clear just how intensely Dem desired her. Once discovered, it spilled over everything else, threading through her until her body warmed in response. The intense attraction that both of them had ignored since the moment of their meeting wasn’t going to be so easy to push aside in the future.

But that wasn’t the final layer. Beneath that were other things. Admiration. Caring. Respect. Pride. Affection. Fear. Uncertainty. Dem genuinely liked her. He didn’t know how to handle it, or what to do about it, but he liked her, and he wanted her.

Veronica Scott has tons to share with us: The SFR Galaxy Awards & her Star Cruise book: Outbreak

Thanks for having me as your guest yet again! I always love stopping by to talk scifi romance.

The 5th annual SFR Galaxy Awards were recently announced –  hours of wonderful scifi romance reading highlighted there – and I was honored to have two of my novels, as well as the Pets In Space anthology  honored with an Award.  I always love to read the explanations the judges provide as to why they picked a book as memorable enough for them to decide to bestow the award. Some of the background thoughts are mini essays and others are a few sentences but always worth perusing. Lots of tongue in cheek SFR humor in the write-ups and this year was no exception.
By all means hop over the SFR Galaxy Award site at http://sfrgalaxyawards.blogspot.com/ and check out all the winning books (and one webcomic).
Now, to get in the mood for Veronica's book,
click the little arrow below

For Star Cruise Outbreak, which received the Award nod from two judges, one of the essays said, in part:  “…This star cruise line is run by a whole lot of ex-military, and it’s a damn good thing, because this crew runs into the sort of trouble that would leave the usual cast of a Love Boat drifting in space in a dead hulk…The story in Star Cruise: Outbreak is not surprisingly an outbreak of a particularly deadly mutation of that old standby, the Norovirus. Viruses, like cockroaches, seem to live forever. Trapped on a plague ship, with no possibility of outside help or outside resources, it’s up to veteran military doctor Emily Shane to find both the cause and the cure with the limited resources and limited time she has left before they are forced to fly into a sun….”
My original novel with an interstellar cruise liner was Wreck of the Nebula Dream, loosely based on the Titanic sinking, which also received an SFR Galaxy Award in 2012, the very first year they were given. That award really inspired me to keep going with scifi romance, that maybe I was telling stories people would like to read! But much as I enjoyed writing Wreck, then that ship was done for (although the hero and heroine had their HEA) and I still wanted to tell more stories on a big interstellar cruise liner that didn’t have a ship-ending disaster. So I came up with the Nebula Zephyr, a newer, bigger, sister ship to the one I’d destroyed, and had fun thinking about who should be in the crew. I do a lot of research for my books, as you and I’ve discussed before  - which coincidentally results in me being followed on twitter especially by cruise and travel bloggers! In the name of research for Star Cruise Outbreak I even tracked down and read the plot synopsis for every single episode of the old “Love Boat” TV series, just for the ‘feel’ of what made the program such a hit at the time.  The continuing characters of the crew were clearly the backbone, with fascinating guest stars and some really ‘out there’ plots. But the modern cruise industry today does a greatly expanded job of entertaining guests, which prompts many current plot ideas for me. I also enjoy watching reality TV like Bravo’s “Below Deck”. Purely in the name of research of course!
Here’s the story for Star Cruise: Outbreak:
She saved countless soldiers in the wars … but does she have the weapons to fight an outbreak?
Dr. Emily Shane, veteran of the Sector Wars, is known as “The Angel of Fantalar” for her bravery under fire as a medic. However, the doctor has her own war wounds–severe PTSD and guilt over those she failed to save.
Persuaded to fill a seemingly frivolous berth as ship’s doctor on the huge and luxurious interstellar cruise liner Nebula Zephyr, she finds the job brings unexpected perks–a luxe beach deck with water imported from Tahumaroa II, and Security Officer Jake Dilon, a fellow veteran who heats her up like a tropical sun.
However, Emily soon learns she and Jake didn’t leave all peril behind in the war. A mysterious ailment aboard the Zephyr begins to claim victim after victim … and they must race against time and space to find the cause and a cure! Trapped on a ship no spaceport will allow to dock, their efforts are complicated by a temperamental princess and a terrorist–one who won’t hesitate to take down any being in the way of his target.  If anyone’s left when the disease is through with them…
Excerpt (I picked a more light hearted moment when Dr. Shane has her first encounter with a typical passenger on her new ship):
The first patient is a princess? That sure sets the tone for the trip. Emily swung around and walked toward the group, unsure who the patient was. Gripping her bag tightly, she hoped someone spoke Basic. Or any language she’d been hypnotrained in.
Only one person was seated—a young girl, long black hair elaborately dressed in braids and curls anchored with jeweled pins. Her pearlescent, ruffled robes shimmered in the lights. She resembled a doll, a miniature version of a queen, lacking only the crown. Emily guessed she was perhaps ten standard years, if she had a Terran heritage. Surrounding the child were three much older women and two massive bodyguards. No one in the party looked ill or in distress. One of the men took a protective stance in front of the girl as Emily approached.
She paid no attention to him but kept walking. The guard moved aside at the last second. Addressing the oldest woman standing directly behind the girl’s chair and seemingly in charge of this odd party, Emily introduced herself. “I’m Dr. Shane. Is the child unwell?”
“The Hereditary Princess Falyn of Tregallovan is quite well, thank you,” answered the woman, frowning as the little girl sneezed with perfect timing.
“Then what brings you to sickbay today? How may I be of assistance?”
“It’s my pet, Doctor, she’s sick.” Brown eyes glinting with unshed tears, the girl left her chair and glided around the bodyguard with steps so smooth she might have been on an antigrav cushion. She pulled a small creature of indeterminate origin from one heavily embroidered, bell-shaped sleeve and cuddled the animal close to her chest. “You must make her well for me.”
“I’m not a veterinarian,” Emily protested. Surprised, she turned to Jake. “You allow animals on board?”
He came to join her, also ignoring the bodyguards. “Good afternoon, Lady Scorsshyn.” He nodded to the old woman before answering Emily’s question. “Sometimes our guests bring their pets along with them, yes. As long as the ICC regulations about inoculations are observed, no worries.” He got down on one knee to address the child. Emily couldn’t decide if he was trying to be nice about not towering over Falyn, or showing deference to her rank. “What seems to be the problem, Your Highness?” Running one hand lightly over the animal’s fur, he said, “Your pet is soft.”
“She sneezes and won’t play or eat or anything.”
“Sounds like a virus. What do you think, Doc? Or maybe an allergy?” Jake gave Emily a meaningful glance. Lowering his voice as he rose, he spoke close to her ear. “You’re going to have to treat the little fluff, veterinarian or not.”
“Well of course. I’m not going to allow any creature to suffer if I can prevent it.” Emily was over her surprise now. At least this trip wasn’t going to be boring. “Bring the animal into the examination room where I can attempt to check the vital signs, see what, if anything, is wrong.”
Scorsshyn opened her mouth, but before she could object to a mere ship’s doctor ordering a princess around, Falyn obediently carried her pet into the smaller chamber. Her five companions had no choice but to follow.
“As her regent, I shall of course be close at hand in the examining room,” said the elderly lady, pushing past the others. Without making a protest, Jake, the two ladies and the guards clustered around the open portal. The ship’s AI smoothly extruded a waist-high table from the wall, and Falyn set her unusual pet on the gleaming surface.
Looking closely at the furry green creature as it shivered on the table, Emily counted six impressively clawed feet, a bushy tail stubbornly curled around the animal’s body, and two golden eyes glaring at her. The pet’s glossy fur, alert attitude and clear eyes projected a reassuring impression of good health so far. “Do we know what kind of animal this is?”
“The Hereditary Princess acquired the creature on the planet three days ago, from a street vendor who gained entry to the hotel lobby,” said the nearest bodyguard.
“Great,” Emily muttered. “How about those up-to-date inoculations now?”

Jayne Fury shares Prologue Freedom Bound and Unhinged Freedom Bound

Good day and or night, afternoon? Hi, I’m Jayne and I write about bodice ripping ninjas in space.

They rip their own bodices.

I have been a pulp serial fan since reading my first Doc Savage novel. My tongue firmly planted in my cheek, I set out to write my own take and found Corrie Scott, the heroine of my first book in serial form. The Solar Flame series first book, Freedom Bound is a reflection of that boom-pow-kickass hero—but with boobs.

The Solar Flame universe is within a new genre and an old one at the same time: Speculative Fiction Romance.  Expect SciFi, Paranormal, Steampunk, and maybe even some Dieselpunk as the series goes on.

Why serial fiction? Why not? We are in a world of sound bites and no time for long luxurious baths with a book and a glass of wine. Well, sometimes. But mostly we only have time for stolen moments with a good story— a story that we want to pick up again and again. I hope that Freedom Bound achieves this by offering a bit of nostalgic serialized fiction with sexy times. I did say romance, right?

The second book in the Solar Flame universe is the full-length novella, Still Life.  It’s currently part of an anthology called Baby It’s Cold in Space and guess what? It takes place on an ice planet. Go figure.  Still Life comes out on its own in March.

Every Friday there’s a new post
up on my blog at jaynefury.com for Femme Friday. Femme Friday is about strong females whether in fiction or real life. I often have guest bloggers who wax on about empowering books or just some supernova awesome heroines.

See you there!

Jaynie

Want to know more about Solar Flame? Like how you can get your first taste for free?

Bodice Ripping Ninjas in Space! Freedom Bound is Firefly meets Buck Rogers with a bit of boudoir.  Welcome to the Solar Flame universe where corporate suzerains control the universe, or do they? Each book unravels yet another thread of the Freedom Road for the reader to continually discover.

In Freedom Bound, Corrie Scott, late of Frobisher Corporation finds herself unleashed in enemy territory alone for the first time in her life. But she is plagued by the threat of corporate slavery and devilishly handsome Mat Parker. Together they must battle through ridiculous red tape, space pirates, and backstabbing double crosses. Can they trust each other long enough to win this dangerous game?

The klaxons screamed. Lights flashed an urgent red tattoo in time with each new bleating beat. The best place for Lieutenant Corrie Scott, and for everyone else, was in her fighter not the officers mess.  She kept her cool, each long stride propelled her through the corridor. Her mind fixed upon a destination. If she could get to her squad, they could defend the ship, and survive to fight another day.
“ALERT! INTRUDER ALERT!”
Drakkin slag! That was fast.
They were boarding.
New problem. Rethink. React. Stay alive. If I don’t get to my unit I’ll be worse than dead. I’ll be hostage fodder. In that moment of realization, a quiet pall settled, pushing the chaos out of focus.
Corrie strode through the corridors, smashing herself against the side bulkheads as the damage crews sped through the center. Her hipbone felt something beneath it, a handle attached to the round hatch cover. Maintenance tube. Her ear against the hatch, she listened intently. Nothing? Good. They aren’t coming up through the tubes. Grabbing hold of the handle, she pulled the hatch open. The wave of nauseating stench hit her like a meteor.
She came close to emptying her stomach on the gangway grating.
“RED ALERT, ALL PERSONNEL! REPORT TO YOUR DUTY STATIONS! THIS IS CAPTAIN KORNWALL. ALL HANDS! SCRAMBLE FIGHTERS.”

Kayelle Allen invites you to meet the Antonello bros: At the Mercy of Her Pleasure

Meeting the Youngest Antonello Brother

Captain NarrAy Jorlan of the All People's Liberation Army is dedicated to freedom. She refuses to bow her will of the almighty Conqueror, Empress of the Tarthian Empire. The Empress has NarrAy's parents killed to prevent them from sharing secret technology and then confiscates their belongings. Retrieving the secret code to the prototype requires a master level thief familiar with government holdings.

When the leader of the rebellion recommends the son of a friend, NarrAy hires him sight unseen. Now, in their first meeting, she comes face to face with a man she at first mistook for young and inexperienced. She's beginning to change her mind.

Senth Antonello isn't your usual cat burglar. He is, in fact, half cat. More properly, HalfKin. The feline-humanoid race known as the Kin are huge, rugged warriors. They are known more for brawn than brains, especially the males. Good thing Senth inherited more traits from his human parent. You'd never know any part of him was Kin until you get close. His cat-slash pupils give him away, along with his fangs. He's not tall, even for a human, and he's on the slender side, with long, dark, curly hair that will never do anything except frizz. Because it annoys his father for Senth to have long hair, he wears it loose and lets the curls have their way.

No matter to Senth that his father used to run the Thieves' Guild, or that he's the richest man in the Empire. To Senth, he's also the biggest stuffed shirt on the planet. Still, when it comes to lining up business, you gotta hand it to dear old dad. He can find the gems among the dreck.

Case in point, the one he just assigned Senth. There's a catch. Isn't there always with dad? The woman he has to work with is addictive. No, really. He can't touch her.

But hey, Senth is a professional thief. Surely, he can steal one little kiss.

Excerpt At the Mercy of Her Pleasure

This scene is told from the heroine's point of view.

NarrAy crossed her legs, exposing a good portion of her skin under the short dress. If she'd been sitting opposite Senth, the length might have been welcome. But the Harbinger lounged in that chair and Senth sat beside her on the couch. Her position put her a little closer to him.

"Empress Destoiya murdered my parents," NarrAy continued her story, "as surely as if she'd been the one who shot them in the back. They were scientists working on secret technology. When rumors got out that they were planning to give their findings to the rebellion, the Conqueror had them killed and then confiscated everything, including their personal belongings. There was a locket my mother inherited from my grandmother, which my grandmother inherited from her grandmother. It's mine and I want it back."

She met Senth's penetrating gaze and held it. She heard rather than saw Encie enter the room and take up a place near the door. Broxus moved to stand beside her. NarrAy couldn't take her gaze off Senth. How did I ever see him as a boy?
He had a man's hands, well-groomed nails and sinewy forearms that revealed power and strength. His biceps bulged. Angular jaw, a firm mouth with lips made for kissing. A hot flutter rose within her and she tamped it down at once, refusing to let her pheromones get the upper hand.

Senth watched her, gaze narrowed, head tilted. He gave a sniff and then eased into a smile. His proximity heightened her desire. He smelled clean, fresh and ruggedly male. A tingle signaled the imminent letdown of her pheromones and she clenched her hands into fists, fighting to calm the spike of lust flickering through her like a torch about to combust.
Senth's faint smile revealed nothing, but he lifted his head, sniffing the air. Kin could smell emotion and desire. Could HalfKin?

He asked me something. Pay attention to business and not your body. She sat up straighter. "I'm sorry. Would you repeat that, please?"
"What I said was no one hires a level-nineteen thief, transports him to another world to break into a government building and then wants him to steal back a locket with sentimental value. Especially one in the custody of the Conqueror. What's it really worth?"

"It's a priceless heirloom." She set a hand against her bosom.

Senth didn't follow her hand movement. Instead he tilted his head as he leaned back against the couch. "I'm more skilled at this job than you are beautiful, NarrAy and that's saying something. Tell me the truth."
Her cheeks warmed. When had she ever blushed over an offhand compliment?

At the Mercy of Her Pleasure

Antonello Brothers 1: a Scifi Romance
At the Mercy of Her Pleasure is a military science fiction romance set in a dystopian world. Its heat level is sweet.

Hired to steal back a prototype taken by the imperial armada, Senth Antonello retrieves it, but his brother is kidnapped to force Senth to surrender the device.

Now he has to rescue his brother, outsmart the armada, and keep the item out of imperial hands. All doable, except for one small problem. He must do it in the company of NarrAy Jorlan, a genetically altered woman whose pheromones could enhance the mission or crumble it into dust with a single siren kiss.

He's a thief. She's a soldier. Do opposites attract? Oh, mercy!

S.E. Smith shares 2 releases: Destin's Hold & The Dragonlings' Very Special Valentine

Thank you, Liza for showcasing my stories and myself today! You have such an important role in helping today’s authors share their stories with readers. I truly appreciate all that you do to help us!

My NYT/USAT Bestselling series, The Alliance, is back with Destin’s Hold: The Alliance Book 5. It is amazing how often time fiction follows the lines of real life. My grandson is currently studying the Incas in school and my husband and I were discussing how the arrival of the Spaniards could be correlated to what would happen if aliens were to visit the Earth.

It is fascinating to think about the reaction of humans to such a visit. It is obvious the aliens would be advanced much like the Spaniards were, but how would they react? Would they arrive to conquer us or would they arrive to reach out in answer to our numerous greetings? We would hope if the aliens were advanced enough to travel this far, they would learn that war was not the way to introduce yourself to your galactic neighbors. How the humans would handle it would be far different. After watching the struggles after a natural disaster, I tend to think it might not go very smoothly.

In the Alliance series, Earth has received first contact. The aliens are not here to conquer, but to bring humans into the Alliance. Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, we don’t graciously accept their offer, but fight against the change. Destin’s story is the fifth book in the series and follows what is going on seven years after the Trivators arrived. If you love action packed adventure, amazing characters, sizzling romance, and a unique story line, then The Alliance series has it all.

Destin’s Hold: The Alliance Book 5
By S.E. Smith
Releases 2/14/2017

Destin Parks will do whatever it takes to rebuild the city he calls home, even if it means working with another alien ambassador. Her predecessor left him hesitant to trust the alien diplomats assigned to Chicago’s rebuilding, but Destin knows that if he refuses to work with them, he will be replaced, and he won’t give them the satisfaction.

Jersula 'Sula' Ikera is assigned to Earth by the Alliance and the Usoleum Council. The Councils hope her logical mind and calm demeanor will resolve the upheaval caused by the last ambassador. Sula has fought hard for her position, and while not pleased with her current assignment to liaise with humans, she will do her best to help rebuild the world its inhabitants have destroyed. What she does not anticipate is her reaction to the hardheaded human male who she has been assigned to work with. His ability to get under her skin and ignite a flame inside her is quite alarming, mystifying, and leaves her questioning her own sanity.

When Sula uncovers an alien cartel’s plans to traffic human women and children, a near fatal attack leaves her unable to trust anyone but Destin. Together, Destin and Sula race to stop the aliens before anyone is taken off-planet, but the traffickers are not the only ones they are fighting against; the Waxian and Drethulan forces have targeted Earth.

Can Destin and Sula stop the traffickers and prevent the deadly forces of the Waxians and Drethulans from destroying the progress they have made? Will the Alliance be able to protect Destin when the enemy discovers his connection to a powerful Alliance family? The battle for Earth has just become personal.

Anyone who has read my books know there are several things that I feel very strongly about and those beliefs are reflected in my stories. Family, friendship, loyalty, humor, and love mixed with a few tears, a lot of action and adventure, and the perfect balance between the hero and the heroine make for an exciting, non-stop, edge-of-your-seat reading experience. Because of my love for these elements, all ending in a sigh-worthy HEA, readers get to see my characters over and over through the series.

The Dragonlings of Valdier series has taken on a life of its own. I started writing them a couple of years ago. I wanted to see how the Valdier, Curizan, and Sarafin warriors, their mates, and especially their children were doing. A vivid dream about Easter eggs and the series was born. I tried to imagine how these huge warriors would react to some of our favorite holidays; holidays that I remember growing up and loved sharing with my children. And so, the Dragonlings and their Besties, Roam – a Sarafin tiger cub – and Alice – a Curizan Princess who can harness the energy around her – were born.

The Dragonlings’ Very Special Valentine is a heartwarming tale of love, hope, and acceptance. Readers will get to see deeper into the lives of the characters from before, while the dragonlings and their best friends go on an adventure to help a lonely woman and a dragon warrior who doesn’t remember what it feels like to love. Discover love and celebrate Valentine’s Day in a way you’ve never imagined – and fall in love all over again.

The Dragonlings’ Very Special Valentine:
Dragonlings of Valdier
By S.E. Smith
 Releases 2/14/2017

A batch of heart-shaped cookies stirs the imagination of the dragonlings and their friends when Carmen shares a magical tale of love. It will take a very special Valentine, a few mischievous dragonlings, their best friends, some clueless warriors, and two enchanting Goddesses to help a lonely woman find the dragon who loves her.

Love is in the air and not even the mighty warriors of the Valdier, Curizan, and Sarafin are immune to the power of celebrating their feelings for the women who have changed their lives. Hearts, glue, and glitter abound when the warriors help the dragonlings on their quest to assist Cupid in this delightful tale of love, hope, and happiness.
