Lyndi Alexander brings you a different shapeshifter: A Small Degree of Hope

A Reptile Kind of Love

Imagine a Saturday night at home, sitting in front of a roaring fire, curled up with the one you love…a shapeshifter who loves you dearly.

Admit it—you thought of a wolf. Or a cat-man. Something warm and fuzzy.

But in the world of science-fiction romance, we have to consider more options. That brings us to Griff, a shapeshifting alien lizard. Aware of a plot to subvert and mutate females of other species for breeding purposes, he comes to the rescue, hunting down a human who will trust him enough to stop the experiments.

So if you were Kylie Sanderson, lead investigator of the task force looking into a series of dead, mutated women found discarded on planet Andan, you’d want to consider all possibilities, right? Even if the explanation provided to you seemed too outlandish to be true?

Her willingness to keep an open mind when she’s approached by Griff leads her to the alien criminals, but also exposes her to danger which shatters life as she knows it.

Not only her present, but her past, too, is implicated in the changes imposed on her. She must discover the long-hidden truth to save herself and her family.

As is often true in love, what we think we desire turns out to be a bitter mirage; sometimes it’s the helping hand and support from someone we’ve never really looked at that reveals who truly loves us and deserves our love in return.

Even the smallest degree of hope can spark love.
Against her wealthy father's demands, and the usual blockades of a male dominated profession, Kylie Sanderson proves worthy of her position as lead investigator of planet Andan's Scientific and Investigative Research Taskforce. Someone is killing Andan's women in an attempt to mutate them into reptiles. Kylie makes it her mission to discover who's behind the murders and prevent more grotesque deaths.

Shapeshifting lizard Griff comes to Andan to stop his brethren from mutating other planet's women into mindless breeding stock. Overcoming Kylie's suspicious and defensive nature proves difficult, but he must in order to help the SIRT team thwart his planet's scientists.

When Kylie is abducted and becomes the first human to survive the transformation, it's up to Griff to rescue her so SIRT can restore her human form. On the run and desperate to unravel the mysteries of Kylie's past to solve the crimes of their present, can she and Griff forge a future for themselves?

As science fiction author S.A. Check says: “The whole situation really helps defines the character.  Intense situation, intense job, and what happens when it all comes home and the person you’re trying to save is family.  And there’s alien lizards – C’MON!  Great stuff!”

Lyndi Alexander dreamed for many years of being a spaceship captain, but settled instead for inspired excursions into fictional places with fascinating companions from her imagination that she likes to share with others. She has been a published writer for over thirty years, including seven years as a reporter and editor at a newspaper in Homestead, Florida. Her list of publications is eclectic, from science fiction to romance to horror, from tech reporting to television reviews.
She's a single mother of seven (mostly grown, thank Heaven!) with two children on the autism spectrum, a quilter, a gardener, and woman of all trades. Her pet project is Project Linus, making blankets for kids in hospitals who need special encouragement.

  1. Thank you for hosting me-- this story came out of an online RPG I used to play. Kylie was one of my favorites. I'm so glad she and Griff found a permanent way to share this love story with others!

  2. Thanks for coming by, Daryl. My books are often heavy on storytelling and less on sex, so there's a strong suspense thread in this tale that should please readers.
